Speed Queen is the brand we see most: commercial topload, frontload and stacked machines with Quantum and other electronic controls, plus residential TC5, TR7 and FF7 machines that many small businesses run for towels. We also service Huebsch, UniMac, Dexter, Electrolux Professional, Wascomat, Continental Girbau, Maytag Commercial, Whirlpool Commercial, LG Commercial and other Alliance Laundry Systems equipment. Speed Queen, Huebsch and UniMac are Alliance brands, so many controls and parts are shared.
Coin and card systems: we diagnose machine faults that show up as coin or card reader errors, such as a jammed coin drop or a reader that has lost communication with the control. Payment system setup and accounts are handled by your payment provider.

Fill and drain faults are the most common call
On Speed Queen frontloads, Er FL means water has not reached fill level after 30 minutes, and Er nF means the level barely changed within 5 minutes. Both usually trace to a closed faucet, a kinked hose or clogged inlet screens. Er dr means water is still in the washer at the end of the cycle, and Speed Queen’s first step is cleaning the pump’s foreign object trap. In a laundromat that trap collects coins, buttons and hair ties. We clear it, check the pump and look for a pattern.
Door locks and drives on frontload machines
Commercial frontloads will not spin without a confirmed door lock. Alliance lists E dL as a door lock error and E do as the door opening during a cycle. Drive faults (E dF and EdF1–EdF5 on Alliance frontloads, F13–F21 on Dexter) point at the motor, the drive and the wiring between them. Dexter says to keep power off for three minutes so the drive can reset, and that quick power cycling can itself trigger F13 or F21.
Dryers: lint, airflow and altitude
Most slow-dry and no-heat calls on commercial dryers start with lint. Alliance says to clean the lint filter daily and to examine and clean exhaust ductwork annually. Thermistor codes (E SH shorted, E oP open) often come with a note to check the harness and remove lint first. For duct cleaning, see our dryer vent cleaning service.
Speed Queen, Alliance and Dexter error codes
Code meanings vary by model and control generation, and commercial and residential Speed Queen machines use different code sets. The commercial codes below come from Alliance Laundry Systems manuals for its commercial frontload washers and dryers, which cover Speed Queen and Huebsch model families. Write down the exact code and the model and serial number from the serial plate before you call.

How a commercial laundry repair visit works
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Booking | Call 720-230-1229 or book online with the brand, model, machine number and any code. We schedule same-day or next-day. |
| 2. Diagnosis | The technician reads stored codes, tests the failed circuit and checks water, drain, gas, venting and power. The $129 commercial diagnostic is credited toward the repair if you proceed. |
| 3. Written quote | You get a written quote before any work. For multi-machine rooms, we quote each machine separately. |
| 4. Parts | Genuine OEM parts whenever available. If a part must be ordered, we tell you and tag the machine out of order. |
| 5. Repair and test | We run a test cycle and confirm fill, drain, lock, spin or heat. |
| 6. Warranty | Every repair carries our 90-day warranty on parts and labor. |
Before you call: safe checks
- Write down the code and the model and serial number from the serial plate, plus the machine number on the floor.
- Confirm the water faucets are fully open and the fill hoses are not kinked.
- Unplug the machine for 15 seconds and plug it back in, as Speed Queen’s guides suggest. On a Dexter, leave power off three minutes.
- Clean the dryer lint screen and the area around it.
- Check the breaker. Reset it once; if it trips again, leave it off.
- If you smell gas or a washer will not stop spinning, keep the door shut, keep people away and call. Do not open service panels.
Denver notes: altitude, water and venting
Gas dryers at altitude. Denver sits at about 5,280 ft. An Alliance Laundry Systems tumble dryer manual says that above 2,000 ft the gas orifice size must be reduced to ensure complete combustion, with a heat input derate of 4% per 1,000 ft of altitude. A dryer moved from a low-elevation site without the right orifice can burn rich, scorch lint and trip high limits. We check orifice and burner setup against the manufacturer’s instructions.
Make-up air. Commercial dryers exhaust a lot of air and need an opening to replace it. The same Alliance manual specifies make-up air openings by dryer size and notes that louvers reduce airflow. A laundry room without enough make-up air dries slowly no matter how clean the ducts are.
Water. Denver Water describes its water as soft to moderately hard, slightly harder in winter. Speed Queen’s guides note that hard water minerals and iron can cause dingy clothes and stains, and that very low water pressure can cause leaking.
Venting. Speed Queen’s residential dryer quick-start guides call for 4 in rigid duct with a maximum straight run of 65 ft, minus 10 ft for each elbow. Long apartment duct runs often exceed that. See dryer vent cleaning.
Commercial laundry maintenance schedule
| Task | How often | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Clean dryer lint screens | Daily at minimum; every load on small dryers | Lint blocks airflow and is a fire risk |
| Clean dryer lint compartment | Daily (Alliance) | Lint builds up behind the screen |
| Examine and clean exhaust ductwork | Annually (Alliance) | Restricted ducts cause long dry times and heat faults |
| Check gas connections for leaks | Twice a year (Alliance) | Safety |
| Clean washer pump foreign object traps | When drain codes appear; monthly in laundromats | Coins and debris cause Er dr and slow drain faults |
| Clean water inlet screens | When fill codes appear; at least yearly | Sediment slows fill |
| Inspect door boots, gaskets and hoses | Monthly | Catches leaks before floor damage |
| Check drive heatsinks and fans | Quarterly in dusty rooms | Dexter lists dirty heatsinks as a cause of drive overheating |
For a scheduled program across a laundromat or property, see commercial preventive maintenance.
Repair or replace?
Commercial washers and dryers are built to be rebuilt. Door locks, valves, pumps, thermistors, igniters, belts and even drives are normal repairs. The harder decisions are bearings on an older washer-extractor, a cracked tub or a drive and control failure on a machine whose parts are getting scarce. We weigh the age, parts availability, the repair cost and how much the machine earns or saves you. Speed Queen’s user guides list a 3-year parts-only limited warranty when its machines are used in multi-user or commercial settings, with no labor coverage, so check your terms. We repair in or out of the manufacturer’s warranty, and the choice of who does the work is yours. If a machine is not worth fixing, we say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Appliance Team charges a $129 commercial diagnostic, credited toward the repair if you proceed. You get a written quote before any work, and every repair carries a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. For rooms with several machines down, we quote each machine separately.
On Speed Queen frontload washers, Er FL means water has not reached the fill level after 30 minutes. Check that both faucets are open and the hoses are not kinked, then unplug the washer for 15 seconds. If it returns, the inlet screens or water valve usually need service.
On Alliance commercial frontloads, including Speed Queen and Huebsch models, E dL is a door lock error: the control could not confirm the door locked. The cause is usually the lock assembly, its switch or the wiring. The machine will not spin until the lock is fixed, so take it out of service.
Yes. We repair the washers and dryers in laundromats and multi-housing laundry rooms, including faults that show up as coin or card errors, such as a jammed coin drop or a reader that has lost communication with the control. Payment system accounts and setup are handled by your payment provider.
Alliance Laundry Systems says to clean the lint filter daily and to examine and clean exhaust ductwork annually. Busy laundromats and long apartment duct runs may need it more often. We offer dryer vent cleaning in the Denver metro.
