Since January 2024 we have completed about 50 Frigidaire refrigerator and freezer calls, and about half of them came in 2026 alone. About half were a cooling problem: the fridge, the freezer or both warming up. About three in ten were ice maker or dispenser problems, and about one in seven was a leak.

1. Not cooling, or freezer not freezing
- Defrost system. When the defrost heater, thermostat or timer fails, the evaporator coil ices over, air stops moving and both sections warm up. In June 2025 a Frigidaire that wasn’t cooling needed a new defrost timer; in June 2026 a freezer that wasn’t freezing evenly needed a new defrost heater.
- Evaporator fan. A fan frozen in ice, or one that has stopped, means the fridge side gets no cold air.
- Control board. On electronic models, a failed board can cut power to the compressor or fans.
- Compressor and sealed system. A compressor that won’t start or a refrigerant leak. In October 2024 a Frigidaire that wasn’t cooling needed a new compressor.
- Air damper. A damper stuck open can freeze food in the fresh food section; one stuck closed lets it warm up.
2. Error and alarm codes on the display
Frigidaire’s own guide lists these common codes and alarms. We also see codes like SY EF and SY CF; they aren’t in Frigidaire’s general guide, and they need a diagnosis.

3. Ice maker and dispenser
- Ice maker assembly. In October 2024 a leaking Frigidaire ice maker had to be replaced.
- Water valve and fill tube. In June 2026 water was dripping from the fill tube and freezing in the drain line; we cleaned the drain and fill tube and replaced the water valve.
- Dispenser. The ice feed mechanism, the dispenser control or a jammed chute.
- Ice maker switch. Check that it’s on; in June 2026 an ice maker wasn’t making ice because its on/off switch wouldn’t stay on.
4. Leaking
Water under the crisper drawers or on the floor usually comes from a clogged or frozen defrost drain. Other common sources are the water filter housing (in September 2026 a leak was the filter base), the water valve and the line to the ice maker.

- October 2024, not cooling. The compressor had failed and needed replacing.
- June 2025, not cooling. A new defrost timer fixed it.
- August 2025, Gallery with SY CF. We replaced the main control board.
- June 2026, freezer not freezing evenly. We melted the ice and replaced the defrost heater.
- September 2026, leaking. A new filter base and filter.
Before you call: three quick checks
- Check the display. PF or a high temperature alarm after an outage may clear on its own once the unit cools down.
- Clean the condenser coils under the front grille or at the back, and make sure the vents inside aren’t blocked by food.
- Reset it. Unplug the fridge or turn off its breaker for a few minutes. If it still won’t cool, call us before the food warms up.
