Since January 2024 we have completed about 55 Kenmore dryer calls. About two in five were “not heating” or “not drying,” about one in four was noise, and about one in four was a dryer that wouldn’t start. The parts we replaced most often were heating elements and drum repair kits (rollers, idler pulley and belt), followed by thermal fuses.
Which Kenmore dryer do you have?
Kenmore dryers were made for Sears by other manufacturers, and the parts match the maker. The first three digits of the model number tell you which one: 110. is Whirlpool, 796. is LG and 417. is Frigidaire (Electrolux). Whirlpool-built Kenmore dryers take the same heating elements, fuses and repair kits as Whirlpool and Maytag dryers. LG-built models use LG parts and LG codes.
1. No heat or takes too long to dry
- Heating element (electric). The most common heat part we replace on Kenmore dryers.
- Thermal fuse and thermostats. A blown thermal fuse can stop the heat or stop the dryer completely. In November 2025 a Kenmore needed both a new heating element and a new thermal fuse.
- Gas valve coils and igniter (gas). In April 2025 a gas Kenmore that wasn’t heating needed a gas dryer repair kit.
- A clogged vent. In June 2025 a Kenmore that “wasn’t drying” had a blocked air duct. Restricted airflow is also what burns out heating elements and fuses, so we check it on every heat call.
2. Squealing, thumping or grinding
- Idler pulley and rollers. A squeal that starts as soon as the drum turns. We usually replace them together with the belt as a repair kit.
- Drum bearing. On some models, including Frigidaire-built stacked units, the back of the drum turns on a bearing. In May 2024 a stacked Kenmore with a belt problem also needed a new drum bearing.
- Motor or blower. A loud hum or roar from the bottom of the dryer.
3. Lint inside the cabinet
The lint screen only catches part of the lint. The rest builds up around the motor, the blower and the heater housing, where it slows drying, adds noise and is a fire risk. We clean the inside of the dryer on most repairs.
4. Won’t start or stops mid-cycle
- Power. An electric dryer needs both legs of its 240V circuit. Check the breaker first.
- Thermal fuse. In April 2026 a Kenmore that stopped and showed F25 needed a new thermal fuse.
- Door switch, start switch or motor switch. In December 2024 a Kenmore that wouldn’t turn on needed a motor switch repair.
- Control board. In November 2025 a Kenmore Elite showing F01 needed a new control board.

Codes on LG-built Kenmore dryers
Codes depend on who built your Kenmore and on the model, so check your manual. On LG-built Kenmore dryers (796.), LG explains d90 and d95 as the dryer detecting a 90% or 95% blockage in the exhaust ductwork. LG’s advice is not to use the dryer until the exhaust has been cleaned and repaired. In February 2026 we had a Kenmore with d90 that stayed on even after the owner cleaned the vent, which can mean the blockage is further along the duct or inside the dryer.

Before you call: three quick checks
- Clean the lint screen, run the dryer and feel the airflow at the outside vent hood. Weak airflow means the vent needs cleaning.
- Check the breakers. An electric dryer uses two; if one is off, the dryer may run but not heat.
- Gas dryer? Make sure the gas valve behind the dryer is open. If you smell gas, don’t run the dryer; leave and call your gas utility.
