Since January 2024 we have completed about 120 Bosch dishwasher calls. About one in three came in with an error code on the display, and the most common one was E15. About one in five was a drain problem. The parts we replaced most often were water inlet valves, drain pumps, water distributors (diverters) and, on newer CrystalDry models, the zeolite fan.

1. E15: water in the base
Bosch dishwashers have a base pan with a float switch underneath the tub. Bosch explains E15 as the safety switch detecting water in the base: the leak protection system has activated. Bosch’s advice is to turn off the water supply.
E15 is a symptom, not a part. The water came from somewhere, and we find where:
- Water distributor (diverter) or inlet valve. On several of our E15 calls water was dripping from the water distributor or the inlet valve into the base.
- Door seal. A worn lower door seal lets water run down into the base.
- Too much foam. Regular dish soap or the wrong detergent makes foam that pushes water out of the door.
- Hoses and connections under the dishwasher, and sometimes a leak from the sink or disposer above it.
Once the source is fixed, we dry the base pan so the float drops and the code clears.
2. Not draining (E24, E25, E22)
Bosch ties these codes to a blocked filter, a blocked drain pump or loose pump cover, a kinked drain hose, or a clogged air gap or drain hose. In our experience the order is:
- The filter. Bosch filters need regular cleaning; a blocked one is the first thing to check.
- The drain pump. Glass, seeds and labels jam the impeller under the pump cover. Cleaning the pump fixed our E25 calls in May 2025 and June 2026; others needed a new drain pump.
- The drain hose and the disposer. In August 2025 a clogged drain hose was the whole problem. In June 2026 the blockage was at the very end of the hose.
3. E07 and drying problems (CrystalDry)
Newer Bosch dishwashers with CrystalDry dry with zeolite, a mineral that releases heat. Bosch lists E07 as a defective zeolite fan motor. On our E07 calls we replaced the zeolite fan, and often the fill tube or water circulation tube next to it. One January 2026 dishwasher also needed a new zeolite ring.

4. Won’t start or stops mid-cycle
- Door latch. If the door isn’t latching, the dishwasher won’t start. Door latches and door springs are common Bosch repairs.
- Water inlet valve. A dishwasher that starts and stops after a few minutes is often not getting water. In October 2024 that was a failed inlet valve.
- Float switch. A stuck float can make a Bosch keep filling and draining, or refuse to run.
- Controls. A power switch, the operating module behind the buttons, or the control board.
5. Dishes not clean
Check the filter first. After that we look at the spray arms and the circulation pump. In March 2025 a Bosch’s spray arms weren’t turning at all and needed replacing; on other calls the circulation pump had failed.
From our service log
- February 2025, start button stuck in. The operating module needed replacing.
- March 2025, spray arms not moving. New upper and lower spray arms fixed it.
- October 2025, filling and draining nonstop. The float wasn’t working. We replaced the float and the inlet valve.
- February 2026, E15 after a detergent change. Liquid detergent made so much foam that it covered the spray arm and pushed water out of the door. We also replaced a zeolite assembly nut.
- May 2026, E15 and a wet base. Water was getting past the lower door seal.
Bosch dishwasher error codes
From Bosch’s published list. Bosch lists many more codes, and not every code applies to every model; check your manual for yours.
| Code | What Bosch says it means |
|---|---|
| E15 | Water detected in the base; the leak protection system has activated. |
| E24 / |
Drain problem: blocked drain pump or loose pump cover, kinked drain hose, or clogged air gap or hose. |
| E22 | Blocked filter, or the same drain causes as E24. |
| E14 | Flow meter failure or a problem with water coming into the dishwasher. |
| E07 | Zeolite (CrystalDry) fan motor is defective. |
| E04 | Faulty heater electronics found in the self-test. |
| E01 | Heat pump motor circuit fault at the main control board. |
| E09 | Heat pump internal heater fault. |
Code still on the display? Call 720-230-1229. We answer 24/7 and can usually be there the same or next day.
Before you call: three quick checks
- Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub and rinse it under running water.
- Check the drain hose for kinks, and the air gap and disposer connection for clogs.
- E15? Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher and call us. Running it again won’t clear the water in the base.
Find your Bosch model number
Bosch puts the rating label on the edge of the door: open the door and look along the top or side edge. Bosch dishwasher model numbers in the US start with SH (like SHX, SHP, SHE or SHPM), followed by a slash and two digits. Write down the model number and the FD number on the same label; together they tell us exactly which parts your dishwasher uses.

Repair or replace?
Bosch dishwashers are well built, and inlet valves, diverters, drain pumps, door latches and springs, floats, spray arms and zeolite fans are almost always worth repairing. When an older Bosch needs a control board and a pump at the same time, we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number. Either way, you get a written quote before any work starts, and the $99 service call is waived if you go ahead with the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bosch says E15 means the safety switch has detected water in the base of the dishwasher and the leak protection system has activated. Turn off the water supply. The water came from a leak, often the water distributor, inlet valve, door seal or too much foam, and that leak needs to be found and fixed before the base is dried.
Most often a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump or loose pump cover, a kinked drain hose, or a clogged air gap or disposer connection. Clean the filter first. If it still holds water, the drain pump usually needs cleaning or replacing.
On Bosch models with CrystalDry, Bosch lists E07 as a defective zeolite fan motor. We replace the zeolite fan, and check the fill tube and circulation tube next to it.
Usually yes. Inlet valves, diverters, drain pumps, door latches, floats, spray arms and zeolite fans are all reasonable repairs. If an older unit needs several expensive parts at once, we tell you honestly before any work.
The service call is $99 and is waived if you go ahead with the repair. You get a written quote for parts and labor before we start, so there are no surprises.
