GE ovens and ranges are among the appliances we repair most often. Our technicians, with more than 30 years of combined experience and over 10,000 appliance repairs behind the company, work on everything from basic GE freestanding ranges to GE Cafe and GE Profile slide-ins, double-oven ranges and built-in wall ovens. The repairs we do most often on GE cooking appliances are bake igniters, spark modules and burner switches, cooling fans behind F96 and F97, temperature sensors and control boards, element contacts and door glass.

1. Gas oven not heating: the bake igniter
On a GE gas oven, the bake igniter has to draw enough current to open the gas valve. As it wears, it still glows but never gets hot enough, so the oven stays cold or heats slowly. This is the single most common GE oven repair we do. In December 2024, February, March, April and June 2025 and December 2025 a new igniter fixed GE ovens that would not heat, including a GE Cafe in June 2025 and another GE Cafe in February 2026 whose replacement igniter was still under warranty. In November 2024 the top oven of a GE double-oven range had a temperature problem and needed new temperature sensors and an igniter.

Check the simple things first. In May 2026 a GE Profile gas oven would not heat past 200 degrees and the burners would not light; the gas supply valve behind the range was not fully open, and opening it fixed everything.
2. Burners clicking or not lighting
GE surface burners light from a spark module through switches on each knob. In November 2024 a GE stove needed a new spark module, in May 2025 another needed a new spark switch harness and gas valve, and in July 2026 a GE Profile cooktop with trouble at the burners and dials needed a new cooktop gas valve. Not every burner call needs parts: in April 2026 cleaning a burner switch fixed a burner that would not work, and in June 2026 cleaning the electrical contacts got a GE gas range igniting again.
3. F-codes on GE wall ovens: F96, F97, F2 and F7
GE lists F96, F97 and F7X as codes that usually require an internal component replacement. On the GE wall ovens we repair, they have most often pointed to the cooling fan that protects the electronics. In April 2025 an F96 needed a new motor sensor and blower, in June 2025 another F96 needed a new wall oven cooling fan, and in February 2026 a GE double wall oven with F97 needed a new fan. In May 2026 a 2019 GE double oven showed F97 and shut off as soon as it was turned on.

GE says F2 means the oven temperature went past a preset limit for an unknown reason; in November 2025 a GE oven with F2 needed a new control board and sensor. GE lists F7 as usually a keypanel problem, and in July 2024 a GE wall oven with F7 needed a new control panel.

4. Electric and induction ranges
On electric GE ranges, the element is often fine and the connection is not. In May 2025 and February 2026 we repaired burnt bake element contacts, and in March 2026 a dead surface element came down to its limiter and contacts. In April 2026 a GE oven with a blown fuse needed its power supply wiring repaired. In May 2024 a brand-new GE oven that would not power on needed a new control board, and in May 2025 a GE induction range needed its control panel assembly.
5. Doors, glass and self-clean
In December 2024 we replaced the inside glass of a GE oven door, and in April 2025 another needed a full window pack. Self-clean causes its own problems: in May 2025 an oven door stayed locked after a self-clean, in August 2025 a GE Profile top oven would not heat until we cleaned its door lock switch, and in December 2025 an oven that stopped after self-clean was working again by the time we arrived.

Some calls end with good news: in July and August 2025 two GE ovens checked out with no faults found, and we said so.

GE oven and range codes
From GE Appliances’ published list for ranges and wall ovens. Codes vary by model; check your manual for yours.
| Code | What GE says it means |
|---|---|
| F0, F1, F6, F7 | Usually a keypanel problem; often the keypanel needs replacing. |
| F2 or F20 | Oven temperature exceeded a preset limit for an unknown reason. |
| F3, F4 | Usually the oven sensor needs replacing. |
| F5, F8, FF | Usually the electronic control needs replacing. |
| F9, FC | A part in the door lock circuit has failed. |
| F96, F97, F7X | Usually an internal component needs replacing. |
| F350 | Upper cooling fan circuit problem or a blocked cooling fan. |
| FD | The probe or its receptacle may need replacing. |
| Bad Line | Power is connected but wired incorrectly; an electrician must correct it. |
| LOC | Child lockout is on. |
Before you call: three quick checks
- Reset the power. GE recommends turning off the breaker for the range or wall oven for a minute or two; this may clear a code.
- Check the gas supply valve behind a gas range is fully open.
- Look for LOC on the display. If the control lockout is on, turn it off as your manual describes.
Repair or replace?
Igniters, spark modules, switches, sensors, fans, element contacts and door glass are all inexpensive compared with a new range, so most GE oven repairs are worth doing. When an older range needs a control board and a gas valve at the same time, we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number. Either way, you get a written quote before any work starts, and the $99 service call is waived if you go ahead with the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
The most common cause we find is a weak bake igniter: it glows but does not get hot enough to open the gas valve. Also make sure the gas supply valve behind the range is fully open. A temperature sensor or control board is less common.
GE lists F96, F97 and F7X as codes that usually require an internal component replacement. On the GE wall ovens we repair, F96 and F97 have most often pointed to the cooling fan.
GE says F2 means the oven temperature exceeded a preset threshold for an unknown reason. Turn off the breaker for a minute or two; if the code returns, the sensor or control usually needs replacing.
Common causes are a wet or dirty igniter, a failed spark module, a worn burner switch or harness, or a gas valve problem. Sometimes cleaning the contacts and switches is all it takes.
The service call is $99 and is waived if you go ahead with the repair. You get a written quote for parts and labor before we start.
