Since January 2024 we have handled about 45 LG dishwasher calls. Roughly one in four came in with a code on the display, and about one in six was a leak. The repairs we did most often were circulation pump and sump work, door hinges, cables and the door lock, water inlet valves, and clearing water from the base after an AE code.

LG dishwashers are built differently from the Whirlpool-family machines. On the LG models we see, the heater sits in the sump together with the circulation pump, a sensor in the base pan watches for leaks, and the door is held by springs and cables on each side. That changes what a code usually means and which part ends up being replaced.
1. AE code and leaks
LG lists AE (shown as E1 on some models) as a leak: water has reached the base of the dishwasher. The dishwasher then stops washing and may keep the drain pump running. In May and September 2025 the fix was to find the cause and remove the water from the base tray; in November 2025 a worn door gasket needed replacing; in February 2026 the leak came from the wash motor assembly. In May 2026 a clogged disposal pushed water back into the dishwasher and over into the base.

The usual sources are the door gasket, the inlet valve or its fitting, the drain hose, the sump seal, or too much suds from the wrong detergent. Drying the base clears the code only if the leak itself is fixed.

Code still on the display? Call 720-230-1229. We answer 24/7 and can usually be there the same or next day.
2. HE code, dishes not clean, or loud running
LG lists HE as a heating error. Because the heater is part of the sump and circulation pump assembly on these models, both of our HE calls ended with that assembly: in March 2024 we worked on the sump and heater, and in August 2026 a dishwasher that showed HE and would not finish its cycle got a new circulation pump with the heater included.

- Circulation pump. A worn pump makes the dishwasher loud or leaves dishes dirty. We replaced circulation pumps in May and July 2025.
- Sump and diverter. In March 2026 one LG needed a diverter motor, an oil seal and a full sump with circulation pump.
- Filter and drain hose. In January 2025 a drain hose cleaning was all one LG needed.

3. Won’t start, stops mid-cycle, or no water (IE)
- Door lock. In September 2025 an LG that would not start a cycle needed a new door lock.
- Control lock. A locked control panel looks like a dead dishwasher. In August 2025 and January 2026 the fix was simply to unlock it.
- Water inlet valve. LG lists IE as a water inlet error. In September 2024 and January 2025 we replaced the water valve.
- Control board and wiring. In August 2026 an LG that started, flashed and shut off had a dirty harness at the user interface board; cleaning the connectors fixed it. A garbled display or a dead unit can also point to the main board.

4. Door drops open or hangs crooked
The door on an LG dishwasher is balanced by springs and cables. When a cable snaps or a hinge breaks, the door falls open or sits crooked and may not seal. We replaced door cables and springs in March 2025 and a hinge with its cable in December 2025.
From our service log
- March 2024, HE code. Sump and heater diagnosed.
- September 2024, IE code. We replaced the water inlet valve.
- January 2025, leaking. A new water valve, and the drain hose reinstalled correctly.
- September 2025, won’t start a cycle. A new door lock.
- November 2025, AE code and leaking. We replaced the door gasket.
- December 2025, door problem. A new door hinge and cable.
- May 2026, not working. Water from a clogged disposal had leaked into the base.
- August 2026, HE code, cycle not finishing. A new circulation pump with the heater included.
LG dishwasher codes
From LG’s published error code guide. Codes vary by model; check your manual for yours.
| Code | What LG says it means |
|---|---|
| AE / E1 | Leak: water detected in the base. |
| IE | Water inlet error. |
| OE | Drain (outlet) error. |
| HE | Heating error. |
| tE | Temperature sensor error. |
| LE | Wash motor error. |
| bE | Too many bubbles (suds). |
| CL | Control lock is on. |
Before you call: three quick checks
- Look for CL on the display. If the control lock is on, hold the button marked for it for a few seconds to unlock.
- Clean the filter and run the disposal before starting the dishwasher.
- Use dishwasher detergent only, never dish soap; extra suds can cause leaks and a bE code.

Repair or replace?
Circulation pumps, sumps, inlet valves, door locks, hinges and cables, gaskets and boards are all worth repairing on most LG dishwashers. When an older unit has a failed sump and a board at the same time, or water damage under it, we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number. Either way, you get a written quote before any work starts, and the $99 service call is waived if you go ahead with the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
LG lists AE (E1 on some models) as a leak: water has reached the base. The leak has to be found and fixed, usually a gasket, valve, hose or sump seal, and the base dried before the code clears.
LG lists HE as a heating error. On the LG models we service the heater is part of the sump and circulation pump assembly, so an HE code often ends with that assembly being replaced.
Check for CL on the display first: the control lock may be on. Other causes we see are a failed door lock, a water inlet problem (IE) or a loose harness at the control board.
The door is balanced by springs and cables on each side. When a cable snaps or a hinge breaks, the door drops open or hangs crooked. Both parts are replaceable.
The service call is $99 and is waived if you go ahead with the repair. You get a written quote for parts and labor before we start.
