Between January and October 2026 we completed 73 LG washer calls. Drain problems were the most common reason, about one call in three, and the drain pump was the part we replaced most often. Leaks came next, about one call in five, then shaking and noise on spin.

1. LG washer not draining (OE code)
OE means the washer could not drain the water in time. It is the code we see most on LG washers, and it is not always a broken part. In order, these are the causes we find:
- A clogged drain pump filter. Coins, hairpins, lint and small socks end up here. LG recommends cleaning this filter at least once a month.
- A kinked, crushed or frozen drain hose. Common when the washer was pushed back against the wall, or in a cold garage in winter.
- A clogged house drain. If the standpipe overflows, the washer is fine and the plumbing is not.
- A failed drain pump. The pump hums but moves no water, or makes no sound at all. On LG front-loaders it is one of the parts we replace most.
How to clean the filter on an LG front-loader: open the small access cover at the bottom front. Put a shallow pan and towels down, let the water cool if it was a hot cycle, then drain it through the small tube next to the filter before you unscrew the filter itself. Clean out the debris, screw it back in firmly and run a Rinse+Spin.

Code still on the display? Call 720-230-1229. We answer 24/7 and can usually be there the same or next day.
2. LG washer leaking
Where the water shows up tells us where to look:
- In front, under the door. A torn or dirty door gasket, or a drain filter cap that was not screwed in all the way.
- Under the left or right side. A loose or cracked inlet hose, a leaking water inlet valve, or the detergent dispenser.
- Only during draining. The drain pump, its hose, or the house drain backing up.
- AE on the display. LG uses AE for an internal leak that tripped the safety switch.

3. Shaking, banging or UE on spin
UE means the load is unbalanced. LG’s first step is to spread the laundry out, keep the drum about two-thirds full and make sure the washer is level. When UE keeps coming back with normal loads, or the washer walks across the floor, front-loaders usually have worn shock absorbers or springs.
A note we hear often: “the belt is broken.” Most LG washers have no belt. They use a direct-drive motor mounted right on the back of the tub. On an April call, the owner suspected the belt; the real problem was worn suspension shocks and springs, plus a torn door boot.
4. LE code, grinding or no spin
LG lists LE as the tub failing to spin, from an overload or a foreign object. LG’s first step: unplug for 5 minutes, reduce the load and remove anything stuck. If it keeps coming back, the motor side needs testing: the stator, the rotor or the Hall sensor that tells the control board where the rotor is.
From our service log
- October, LE and noise. An LG front-loader stopped mid-cycle with LE and made noise trying to spin. The motor itself was fine; the Hall sensor on the stator had failed. We replaced the sensor and the washer spun normally.
- May, not working after a carpet wash. After washing a rug, the drain filter was clogged. We cleaned it, and no parts were needed.
- March, grinding noise. The cause was a coin caught where it should not be. We took it out and the noise stopped.
5. Not filling (IE), door won’t lock (dE) and other codes
- IE: water inlet error. Check that the faucets behind the washer are open and the hoses are not bent. Then the inlet screens and the water inlet valve.
- dE: door won’t lock. Make sure nothing is caught in the door. LG’s reset: unplug, hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds, plug back in. If it stays, the door lock usually needs replacing.
- Smell from the drum or gasket. Run Tub Clean when tCL shows up, wipe the door gasket, and leave the door and the dispenser drawer open between loads.

LG washer error codes
Codes and meanings below are from LG’s own support documentation for front-load washers. Top-load models use most of the same codes. Write the code down before you call; it helps us bring the right part.
| Code | What LG says it means | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| OE | Washer can’t drain | Check the drain hose for kinks, clean the drain filter, run Spin Only |
| IE | Tub doesn’t fill | Open the faucets fully and straighten the hoses |
| UE | Unbalanced load | Spread the laundry out, drum about 2/3 full, level the washer |
| LE | Tub fails to spin: overload or foreign object | Unplug for 5 minutes, reduce the load, remove anything stuck |
| dE/ |
Door won’t lock | Unplug, hold START/PAUSE 5 seconds, plug back in |
| dE2 | Door problem | Open and close the door, then reset as above |
| AE | Internal leak, safety switch activated | Check the inlet hose connections; unplug for 60 seconds |
| FE | Water overfill | Unplug for 60 seconds and restart; if it returns, call |
| PE | Water level sensor | Unplug for 10 seconds and restart; if it returns, call |
| CE | Over-current in the motor circuit | Unplug for 10 seconds and restart; if it returns, call |
| tE | Heating error, usually the thermistor | Unplug for 10 seconds and restart; if it returns, call |
| Sud | Too many suds, not a failure | Use less HE detergent |
| FF | Water froze in the tub or drain hose | Thaw with warm water, wait 1–2 hours, test run |
| tCL | Tub Clean reminder, not a failure | Run Tub Clean with the drum empty |
| CL | Child Lock is on, not a failure | Hold the Child Lock button for 3 seconds |

Find your LG model number
On most LG front-loaders the label is on the door frame or inside the door opening; on top-loaders, check under the lid or on the back of the cabinet. LG washer model numbers usually start with WM for front-load and WT for top-load.

Repair or replace?
Drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves, door gaskets, shock absorbers and Hall sensors are almost always worth repairing on an LG washer. A failed tub bearing or a cracked tub on an older front-loader is where we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number. Either way, you get a written quote before any work starts, and the $99 service call is waived if you go ahead with the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
OE means the washer could not drain in time. Check the drain hose for kinks, then clean the drain pump filter behind the small cover at the bottom front. If the filter is clean and the code comes back, the drain pump usually needs replacing.
LG recommends at least once a month. Coins, hairpins and lint collect there and can slow draining, cause odors or damage the drain pump.
LG lists LE as the tub failing to spin, from an overload or a foreign object. Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, reduce the load and remove anything stuck. If it keeps coming back, the Hall sensor, stator or rotor of the direct-drive motor needs testing.
Most LG washers do not. They use a direct-drive motor mounted on the back of the tub. Shaking or banging on spin is usually worn shock absorbers or springs, not a belt.
The service call is $99 and is waived if you go ahead with the repair. You get a written quote for parts and labor before we start, so there are no surprises.
