Samsung is one of the washer brands we see most. Between January and October 2026 we completed 86 Samsung washer calls. About a third were spin problems: the drum shaking, banging or stopping with the unbalanced-load code. Drain problems came next.

What we see most on Samsung washers
- Ub code, shaking or banging on spin. Sometimes it really is the load, and Samsung’s first step is to spread the laundry out and restart. When the code keeps coming back with normal loads, top-loaders usually have worn suspension rods and front-loaders worn shock absorbers or springs.
- Not draining (5C, 5E, nd). Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle. The usual causes are a clogged debris filter, a kinked drain hose or a failed drain pump.
- Not filling (4C, 4E, nF). Closed valves, kinked hoses or clogged inlet screens come first, then the water inlet valve.
- Door won’t lock (dC, dE, LO). Laundry caught in the door, a misaligned latch or a failed door lock.
- Leaks. Torn door gaskets on front-loaders, and loose or cracked hoses on both types.
- Loud grinding on spin. Often the bearings. The earlier it is caught, the more repair options you have.

From our service log: Ub that kept coming back
A call from March: a Samsung top-load washer that stopped mid-spin with Ub on the display, even with small, evenly spread loads. When the code returns with loads like that, the laundry is not the problem. The suspension rods that hold the tub steady are. On this washer the rods were worn, and we replaced the set.
Samsung washer error codes
Codes and meanings below are from Samsung’s own support documentation. Some codes mean different things on different models, so check your manual too. Write the code down before you call; it helps us bring the right part.

Before you call: two quick checks
- Front-loader not draining? The debris filter is behind the small cover at the bottom front. Put towels and a shallow pan down first, and if your model has a small drain tube next to the filter, let the water out through it before you open the filter.
- Unbalanced code? Make sure the washer stands level and does not rock, then run a normal load spread evenly around the drum.

Find your Samsung model number
On most Samsung front-loaders the label is on the door frame: open the door and look around the opening. On top-loaders, check under the lid or on the back of the cabinet. Model numbers starting with WF are front-load, WA top-load and WV FlexWash.

Repair or replace?

Suspension rods, shock absorbers, drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves and door gaskets are almost always worth repairing. Bearing failure on an older front-loader is where we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number. Either way, you get a written quote before any work starts, and the $99 service call is waived if you go ahead with the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ub means the load is unbalanced. Spread the laundry out and press Start again. If it keeps showing up with normal, evenly spread loads, the suspension rods (top-load) or shock absorbers (front-load) are usually worn.
5C (5E or nd on some models) means the washer is not draining. Check the drain hose for kinks and clean the debris filter on front-loaders. If the code comes back, the drain pump usually needs service.
Make sure both water valves are fully open and the hoses are not kinked, then turn the washer off for a minute. If it still will not fill, the inlet screens or the water inlet valve need service.
